About the Project
The project is aimed at driving systemic changes in the Khmelnytskyi community regarding the collection and recycling of waste from garment and footwear enterprises in order to protect the environment and implement circular economy models.
It addresses the problem of inefficient waste sorting and landfilling, as more than 300 m³ of production waste is disposed of at the municipal landfill or illegal dumpsites each month.
The expected outcome is the development and implementation of alternative circular business models for managing such waste within the community.
Objectives
- Introduce systemic changes in the waste management of garment and footwear enterprises
- Reduce the volume of production waste disposed of at the municipal solid waste landfill and illegal dumpsites
- Establish an efficient system for sorting and recycling light industry waste
- Develop and implement alternative circular business models for waste management
- Integrate circular economy principles into the practices of local enterprises and the community
- Contribute to environmental protection and the ecological safety of the region
Key Problems and Opportunities in Focus
- Creation of promotional and educational materials for entrepreneurs on the environmental harm caused by industrial emissions
- Development of alternative circular business models: from incineration to deep recycling
- Development of a digital city map for the placement of specialized waste containers to ensure collection from small producers who lack the resources to transport their waste
- Opportunity to assess the interest of small players in the garment market and to understand seasonal waste volumes through the placement of a pilot batch of textile waste containers
- Creating preconditions for deep recycling within the eco-industrial park in the city of Khmelnytskyi
Expected Impact
- Collected at least 100 tons of textile waste.
- Installed a minimum of 20 textile waste collection containers.
- Developed one digital map of textile waste container locations.
- Reached at least 500 people through educational activities.
