Building a Full Cycle for Engineering Solutions at the Engineering & Modelling Center

About the Project

The project envisions the establishment of a permanent Engineering and Modeling Center in Sumy Oblast, based at Sumy State University, which will provide enterprises of the mechanical engineering cluster with a full cycle of engineering solutions – from digital design and modeling to prototyping, testing, and implementation in production.

Project implementation will reduce business R&D costs, shorten time-to-market for new products, enhance the innovative and manufacturing capacity of enterprises, and create an institutional foundation for sustainable post-war recovery and development of the regional mechanical engineering sector.

Objectives

  • Establish a permanent Engineering and Modeling Center at Sumy State University as an element of the cluster infrastructure.

  • Provide mechanical engineering cluster enterprises with access to a full cycle of engineering services—from digital design and modeling to prototyping, testing, and implementation in production.

  • Reduce enterprises’ R&D costs and shorten new product development timelines.

  • Enhance the innovative, manufacturing, and competitive capacity of regional mechanical engineering companies.

  • Create a sustainable mechanism for the transfer of engineering solutions and technologies to support post-war recovery and the development of the regional mechanical engineering sector.

Key Problems and Opportunities in Focus

  • Lack of integrated engineering infrastructure in the region, limiting the full cycle of development and implementation of engineering solutions.

  • Dependence of enterprises on external R&D services, which increases costs, extends development timelines, and reduces competitiveness.

  • Constraints on production modernization due to the high cost and complexity of accessing engineering support.

  • A window of opportunity driven by the mechanical engineering cluster, the capacity of Sumy State University, and growing demand for local engineering solutions in the context of recovery.

Expected Impact

  • Establishment and commissioning of the Engineering and Modeling Center, operating in at least three engineering domains and delivering a full cycle of engineering services.

  • Implementation of at least five applied engineering projects for enterprises within the mechanical engineering cluster.

  • Launch of at least two joint R&D projects in partnership with business.

  • Reduced timelines for the development and implementation of engineering solutions for cluster enterprises.

  • Increased competitiveness of enterprises and the creation of a sustainable regional infrastructure for engineering solutions transfer.
